Policy & Procedure Review

Reviewing the health and safety policy and procedures is a critical aspect for any construction company. This review is essential to ensure that the company is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding safety in the workplace. It is also a way to ensure that the employees of the company are working in a safe environment and that all risks associated with construction work are identified and mitigated. The review process should involve a thorough examination of the policy and procedures, with any necessary updates and changes made to improve the overall safety of the workplace. Regular reviews should be conducted to ensure that the company stays up-to-date with any changes in safety regulations and best practices in the construction industry.

Toolbox Talks

Perform short safety meetings or training sessions with workers on site to discuss relevant workplace safety topics. These talks typically last 15 minutes and are conducted on a weekly basis, before work starts or during shift changes. The purpose of toolbox talks is to reinforce safety procedures and best practices, identify potential hazards, and promote safety awareness among employees.  The aim of toolbox talks is to provide an opportunity for employers and employees to work together to create a safer and healthier work environment.

Orientation

Orientating new subtrades on a construction site is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and well-being of all workers on the site. It is essential that all subtrades are aware of and understand the health and safety policy and programs outlined by the general contractor. This includes familiarizing themselves with the specific hazards and risks associated with the site, as well as the procedures and protocols in place to mitigate these risks. Proper training and orientation can help new subtrades recognize potential hazards and take necessary precautions to ensure their own safety, as well as the safety of their fellow workers. It is the responsibility of the general contractor to provide a safe working environment and ensuring that all workers are properly informed and trained on health and safety policies and programs is a critical part of that responsibility.
